| During the 36 hours before, during and after Hurricane Irene hit the Trappe area, Trappe Fire Co responded to 16 total incidents that included trees down, wires down, flooded roads, flooded basements and two structure fire respondes.
Station 77 officers met at 8 PM on Saturday night to develop a plan of action and staff the station with volunteer members. While the meeting was just about to end, our first of many calls started coming in.
Crews responded to handle several calls at the start of the storm. The Trappe Borough EOC was also opened at Station 77 by Trappe Borough EMA. Things got quite around 3 AM, and crews got some rest. Around 7 AM Sunday, more calls started coming for flooded basements.
Crews spent all day Sunday up until 10 PM assisting residents and businesses pumping water out of basements. Even on Monday morning they responded to water in the basement of Trappe Borough Hall.
Trappe EMS responded to several water rescue calls in Perkiomen Twp. and had 3 crews in service. Along with the water rescues, they responded to several fire calls along with a larger then normal call volume for a weeekend.
Together there was 25 - 30 volunteer fire fighters and career staff EMS persons at Trappe Fire Co/EMS ready to respond. We would like to thank all local businesses who donated food to the crews while they manned the station. An additional thank you for the monies donated by residents during our services. |
