Woods Fire with Power Lines Down

By Deputy Fire Chief Robert Greenwood
March 7, 2012

Station 66 was dispatched for a woods / field fire along the PECO power lines off Trappe Road at 3:18PM. Chief 66 arrived in the area and found a working woods fire with live electric power lines down and arching in a wooded area that was located where Upper Providence Twp., Perkiomen Twp., and Trappe Borough all join.

The best access to the fire was found to be at the deadend of Meadowland Drive in Upper Providence Twp. and the fire had started in Uppper Providence. Chief 66 also called for additional field trucks.

Fire crews had to drive through woods, creeks and mud to reach the fire. Once on location they had to wait to approach the area due to the live power lines. PECO arrived and power was turned off to the downed power line.

Crews remained on location for 2 hours cutting up trees that had burned and soaking the area with water and foam to make sure there was no flare ups.
