PVSD Students Help Trappe Fire Co on MLK Day of Service

By Firefighter/EMT Anthony Iovino
January 21, 2013

Martin Luther King JR day has become a day in which everyone is encouraged to perform community service in memory of the late civil rights leader. As a result Perkiomen Valley School District (PVSD) created a program to get students involved in community service. This year was the pilot year of the program.

Trappe Fire Company was asked to host some of the students by having them help us with tasks around the station. We happily took on 10 of the 50 students who volunteered from Perkiomen Valley High School (PVHS), in conjunction with the "Cradles to Crayons" pick up. The students did an outstanding job and got a lot of tasks accomplished. Some of these tasks included: cleaning the fire trucks and ambulances, sweeping and washing the engine bay floors, organizing the kitchen, cleaning the fire hall, helping prepare the Main street property for rental, and much more.

Trappe Fire Company would like to thank all those who participated, and we look forward to working with PVSD and their students again next year.

The Fire Company members included:
Anthony Iovino: Coordinator and point of contact with PVSD. Also supervisor for boys during their work.
Ashley Witcraft: Supervisor for girls during their work
Bob Greenwood (Deputy Chief 77): The officer who supervised both "Cradles to Crayons" volunteer work and the volunteers from the High School.
Ben Henry: The officer who supervised all work in the main street property.
Kristen Norwood: Assisted the company with "Cradles to Crayons" and worked on the main street property with the HS students.
Steve Sellet: Assigned all the jobs for the students, picked up all parts from the stores, and assisted in the work on the main street property.

Units: Station 77 Members

Mutual Aid: PVSD Students
