The Trappe Fire Company, The Perkiomen Fire Company and our local firefighting community have lost a brother, friend, fire police captain, fire police lieutenant, and company President.

It is with deep regret that The Trappe Fire Company announces the passing of Barry W. Stott Jr. Barry had been a member of the Trappe Fire Company since the early 1990’s, serving over 24 years as a member of Trappe Fire Company, primarily as a Fire Police Officer, but over the years serving in many roles, most significantly as Company President.

As life took hold Barry moved around the area and during those times he served as a member of the Oaks Fire Company (presently Black Rock Fire Department), Upper Salford Fire Department, and up to recently, Perkiomen Fire Company where he also served as Fire Police Captain.

During his 24 years of service, Barry held the post of District 13 Fire Police Commissioner for 3 years (96-97). He was responsible for any large response of Fire Police during significant incidents. He also was highly decorated for his dedication and service receiving several awards for this work. Notably, he received recognition through a Fire Police Captain’s Award and in one year he was awarded recognition for running more fire calls than any other station member.

As President of Trappe Fire Company, Barry oversaw a significant expansion of the role of the professional volunteer through increased requirements on training and professionalism. Since Trappe Fire Company Ambulance is also the President’s responsibility, he held a significant role in Trappe Ambulance reaching modern levels of maturity and service through rigorous attention to care.

Barry was born on May 22, 1971, in Norristown, and was a son of Charlotte H. (Nester) Stott Rose, Stowe, and the late Barry W. Stott, Sr. He was a graduate of Methacton High School. Barry’s full-time job was a bus driver for Methacton School District. In addition to his wife and mother, Mr. Stott is survived by his daughters, Kimberly A. Stott and Tiffany A. Stott, both at home; his siblings, Robert, husband of Amy (Gouldey) Stott, Quakertown, and Jo Ann, wife of Anthony Ivens, Norristown. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Barry W. Stott, III.

A Fire Police Prayer

Almighty God our savior, whenever I am dispatched to serve my fellow man in times of need, I ask you,

To give me the strength and guidance to be ever alert and to be consistent within the discharge of my duties,

To be ever mindful of the welfare and safety of all I have been sworn to protect and serve,
To be fair and impartial in the treatment of all persons with whom I come in contact,

To be courteous and never be profane in words or deeds while on duty,
To strive to always be proficient with the talents which you have given me, and to always have the willingness to serve.

And, if during my service to others in times of need, it is your will that I lay down my life, bless always, with your love and guidance, my family and those I leave behind.
