Busy New Years Day for Station 77
Email Print RSS Facebook Twitter RSS

By Deputy Fire Chief Robert Greenwood
January 1, 2015

The New Year started out early with a Smoke Alarm at 0635 hours. Station 77 and E34 were dispatched to the Trappe Borough Hall. Units arrived and made entry with a master key to find a light smoke condition inside. No upgrade was needed as the smoke dissipated quickly with natural ventilation.
Crews worked for 30 minutes to locate the source of the smoke. It was traced to a burnt motor in an HVAC unit. The unit was placed OOS and service was contacted along with the Borough Counsel president/members.
Units cleared after about an hours in service.

Ladder 77 then responded with Station 34 at 0920 hours to a Fire Alarm at College Arms Apartments. Units arrived to find a vacant apartment with an alarm sounding since 0500 hours. Crews stood by and once it was determined there was no smoke or fire, all 77 units were released.

Ladder 77 responded at 1440 hours to assist Station 66 on a fully involved house fire in the 100 block of Lincoln Rd. There was heavy fire on arrival of first units and units were on scene for 4 hours. See separate story.

During the working house fire, Engine 77 and Ladder 83 (Stand by Ladder at 77) responded to the 400 block of Belgian Rd for an odor of gas inside. Making this the fourth call of the day!!
