By Deputy Fire Chief Robert Greenwood
November 27, 2016

Royersford Station 98 and Chester Station 63 were dispatched to a report of a fire in the area of Second Ave and Hefner Road at 1830 hours on Sunday night. Chief 98 arrived within 3 minutes and found a fully involved 2 story office at Beans Lumber and Millwork. There was several exposure buildings that all were full of wood and horses.

The working fire dispatch also added E77, SD51, Air 51, Chester Ladder 65 and R86 (RIT) along with medics.

E77 responded with a crew of 6 within 6 minutes and while responding heard there was a water suply issue since there was no hydrants in the area of the fire. E77 then laid its entire hose bed 1300 feet of hose from the closest hydrant that was over 6/10 of a mile away. Once out of hose, R98 then continued the hose lay until they ran out and then Chester E65-2 completed the hose lay.

Crews from 77 then assisted with fire suppression, overhaul and water supply of the 5 inch hose relay. E77 crew was able to gain entry into an exposure building that was starting on fire and with assistance from E98 crew, they were able to save the horse stables. All horses had been removed safely before the fire had spread.

Crews were on scene for almost 4 hours along with fire police directing traffic until they were released by Chief 98.

E77 did respond back to the location around 0030 hours for a rekindle and they along with E98 dumped additional tanks of water on the rubble.
