On Thursday May 7, 2020, Trappe Fire Company units responded to assist Upper Providence Department of Fire and Emergency Services, Black Rock Vol Fire Co., and Royersford Fire Department, with an expanded traffic incident on WB RT422 in the area of the Mingo Road Overpass.

Units arrived to find an overturned tanker with a large amount of hot asphalt actively leaking from the tanker. The truck was carrying approximately 6,000 gallons which spilled into the median and was moving toward Mingo Road. A coordinated effort on the bypass and on Mingo Road by responders resulted in stopping the leaking product from the tanker and damming the runoff to prevent entry into any storm sewers. Chief 77 led the operation on Mingo Road while Engine 77 and Squad 99 crews assisted in containing and diverting the product.

Friendship Ambulance, UPT Emergency Management, Montgomery County Haz Mat, Montgomery County Emergency Management, Upper Providence Public Works, PennDOT, PSP, and numerous fire police officers also responded to assist.

Yesterday’s operation was not at all routine, and amazing teamwork proved for a successful result!
