| On Thursday Night, March 12th, the Trappe Fire Company Division of EMS hosted its annual skills refresher training session. This night provides our staff an opportunity to not only practice some day-to-day skills, but also to review those procedures we aren't often called on to perform as well as to be introduced to up-and-coming techniques and technology that we here at Trappe plan to implement. This night is also much more "hands-on" than our typical monthly EMS training classes, making it as fun as it is educational.
This year Trappe's EMS staff, volunteers, and a few 'brave' fire-divison members rotated through six stations, practicing CPAP, surgical airway placement, intraosseous line placement, airway management, some new hemorrhage control techniques, and the dreaded "mega-code," an all-inclusive scenerio-based cardiac resuscitation simulation administered by Trappe medical director Dave Neubert, MD.
All in all everybody performed well (as per usual), learned a lot, and, just as importantly, had a good time doing it. |
