| At 0754 hours, Station 77, E34, SD34, E66 and Ladder 54 were all dispatched to a reported commercial building fire at 164 Elio Circle in the Trappe Village Apartments. The caller reported an smelling smoke and called 911.
L77 and DC77 arrived within 8 mins of dispatch and confirmed an odor of electrical and found light smoke in the front bedroom. The assignment was held to original dispatch as no upgrade or confirmed dispatch was needed.
Chief 77 arrived and took up command shortly thereafter.
Crews checked apartment 164 along with three other apartments on the "B" and "D" sides upper and lower levels. No odors or smoke found in those units.
After about 15 mins crews were able to narrow down the smoke/odor to an overheated motor on the heat pump unit and natural ventilation cleared all odors and smoke. Power was turned off to the unit and the on site manager was advised to call for service.
One FF suffered a minor laceration to his hand while making entry on the second floor. Medic 324 treated him and was released on scene.
All units took up and cleared soon after the discovery of the overheated motor. |
