Gasoline Leak At Wawa Store

By Deputy Fire Chief Robert Greenwood
February 12, 2008

Station 77 was dispatched to the Wawa at 1860 E. Ridge Pike in the Trappe section of Upper Providence Twp. for a gasoline pump with an "active" leak.

It was reported that a pick up truck had hit the gas pump and it started leaking about 30-50 gallons of gasoline.

77 units arrived to find that store employees had shut down the gas pumps and evacuated the entire store / parking lot. Employees were in the process of controlling the gasoline already spilled.

77's crew assisted in containment of the spill and prevented the gasoline from entering the storm drains. 77 Fire Police took up traffic control points at all entrances.

Station 77 remained on location along with FM 68 until Lewis Enviromental arrived to clean up the spill.
The incident was placed under control, and the store was able to reopen.

Thanks to Wawa for the coffee while we were on location.

Units: Engine 77, Deputy 77 and Traffic 77

Mutual Aid: FM68
