For the second time within one month, Station 77 was dispatched to The Courts at Upper Providence for a mother duck whose ducklings had fallen down the storm drain. Already experienced in the rescue of these slippery little critters, Ladder 77's crew knew immediately how to deal with them, but the little guys weren't going to be as easy as the last time. After checking the storm drain for any potentially harmful gases, FF Kozak went down into the drain and snagged 7 of the 9 duckings.
Tragically one of the ducklings didnt survive. Once the 7 were pulled out, the chase was on for the one little duckling that got past Steve and into another pipe. After popping a few more drains grates off and 1 1/2 hrs later the little guy was able to make a get away. Exhausted from the chase, and after getting all equipment ready to go, the crew went upto PNC bank and got some refreshments from their stand.
Thank You PNC Bank for the water and Bruster's for the ice cream. Dont forget to stop by PNC on June 21st for their 1 year anniversary celebration. Once refreshed the crew relocated the family to a more duck friendly location in Limerick Twp.
