| At 2:30 a.m. Early in the morning of July 4 TFC responded for smoke alarms sounding in a home in the 100 Block of Fox Run Lane in Upper Providence Township.
The arriving crew found no fire, but some distressed parents worried about their children and the safety of their home. Ladder 77's crew assisted the family in identifying the problem smoke detectors, and silencing them, as well as thoroughly checking the home and attic for any signs of a fire –of which there were none.
The families two young children finally awoke amid the intrusion of 6 firemen in the middle of the night. Like all kids, they wanted to see our big truck and at that early hour, mom, dad and the kids ventured out to the curb to take an up-close look at Ladder 77.
This is call is like dozens we handle each year, except this time there was an extra happy ending. During our participation in the Skippack parade, our new friend (and perhaps future firefighter) Corinne, and her dad greeted us with a fabulous hand drawn thank you picture which accompanies this story. Thanks Corinne!
A reminder to all the residents we protect, most of the newer homes have smoke detectors that run on house current, but that still have batteries (as a back-up) that need to be replaced twice a year. If you forget, when the batteries run low (and it's always at 2 .m.) the alarm system may sound. Change your batteries, all of them, twice a year, using the day the clocks move forward and back as a good reminder. Change your clocks, change your batteries! |
