By Assistant Fire Chief John Rafner
August 31, 2008

Members of Trappe Ambulance EMS Strike left home Friday night, headed for Louisiana as part of the PA EMS Strike Team. The PA team joins other teams from around the country to become part of the FEMA response to Hurricane Gustav. The storm is anticipated to make landfall on Monday 9/1

A Trappe Ambulance Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and our support vehicle is staffed with 2 EMT's and 2 Paramedics each who have received hundreds of hours in disaster relief training and participating in a readiness drill juts 10 days ago.. Several members of our team are veterans of a similar deployment in 2005 to aide the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Our team left Friday night, joined by teams from Goodwill - Pottstown, Lower Frederick, Second Alarmers and a Support vehicle from Montgomery County Department of Public safety. The Montgomery County Strike Team is being lead by team leader (and Trappe Paramedic) Scott Mickalonis. The support vehicle carries supplies and equipment needed for the crews to be able to provide service to victims.

Its important to note that we are able to provide the crews and vehicles for the strike team mission without compromising the level of service our resources available to our lcoal residents.

Trappe EMS Deputy Chief Mike Roberts said "our crew members covered every open shift created by the deployment to Louisiana, without a moment of lapsed coverage" He continued to say that " Local residents can count on the highest levels of response and EMS care that we always provide".

Check our website daily for reports from our teams in the south.
