Early Morning Working Fire in Skippack Township

By Deputy Fire Chief Bob Greenwood
September 1, 2015

Ladder 77 was dispatched with Station 86 and 66 at 06:19 hours for a reported house fire in the 800 block of Mountain Top Drive in Skippack Township.

Ladder 77 responded as Chief 86 arrived and reported a working fire and took Command. Several additional Engines were requested. Chief 77 arrived and took over fire operations.

Ladder 77 arrived and placed the main aerial ladder into service. With assistance from other stations ground ladders were also placed onto the building. Crews used the main aerial ladder to cut a ventilation hole in the roof over the master bedroom on the A / D side roof. A large amount of equipment was used from Ladder 77 as it was parked in front of the fire building. Ladder 77 also placed a 2 inch hand line into service for additional fire suppression inside.

Interior crews encountered heavy smoke and heat conditions inside. The fire had burned holes in both the first and second floors from the basement making for even more dangerous operating conditions.

Once the fire was under control crews had to do extensive overhaul and assist with debris removal for fire investigators. Ladder 77 was able to be released after about 4.5 hours of service.
